ENJOY VALENTINE’S DAY AND SUPPORT UNDER-SERVED GIRLS FINDING THEIR VOICE.

Los Angeles, CA; February 1, 2011--Taking the Reins, a non-profit organization in Atwater Village helping girls overcome the challenges of adolescence, is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner on Saturday, February 12, 2011; catered by a local culinary artist and live music. The annual event raises money to support Taking the Reins’ programs to help under-served girls to find a voice, strengthen their self-worth and use skills to become leaders in their community.

“Picture one hundred people seated at a long table in a vintage barn enjoying fabulous food, wine, and music while supporting an organization that helps at-risk teenage girls. What could be better?” described Jane Doctor Paul, Taking the Reins Board President.

Judith Hopkins, co-founder and Executive Director of Taking the Reins hopes one hundred tickets are sold for this year’s event. “The most prominent, long-term benefit of Taking the Reins is that the girls learn to believe they are entitled to success. We don't want them just to avoid poverty; we want them to thrive as entrepreneurial leaders, creative innovators and successful forces of change in the world.” The girls who stay involved with Taking the Reins throughout middle school and high school, are mentored so they go on to attend college.

The Valentine’s Day dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers served under twinkling candlelight in a rustic, vintage barn. Guests will relish the aromas and flavors of the exclusively-catered dinner by former jockey and culinary artist Rhonda Dompierre, featuring fresh and enticing local ingredients. A selection of wine paired to complement the menu and an array of delectable desserts will round out the evening’s celebration. Throughout the night, guests will be entertained enjoying a delightful live performance by renowned musician Gerry Fennelly. Tickets are on sale now for $100 per person and RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, February 08, 2011.
