ATWATER VILLAGE COMMUNITY DECLARED “FICTIONAL” BY AVNC CO-CHAIR

At a recent community meeting the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council (AVNC) Co-Chair, Robert “Fixer” Smith, stated that Atwater Village is a “fictional” community. His comments came in a conversation just after concluding a community meeting with City Council President Garcetti. That meeting was held to discuss the proposed NELA River Redevelopment Project Area and the growing opposition to having Atwater Village declared “blighted”.

Fixer drew quick and sharp rebukes from some meeting attendees that were offended by his comment. Fixer was assured by those offended that Atwater Village is indeed a real community with very specific boundaries.

Fixer has since stated that his comments were “misquoted and taken out of context” and that in the conversation in question he “was talking about property boundaries and borders compared to legal entities like incorporated cities.”

Fixer currently serves as Co-Chair of the AVNC Board along side Leonora Gershman-Pitts. He has held that position since August 2009 and has served on the AVNC Board since May 2009. He is also a homeowner and resident in Central Atwater Village since 2007. Click here for a complete bio.
