So, that was the year that was...

Welcome to this week’s Discuss HR, the blog written for and by members of HumanResources UK.

So, that was the year that was...

In November 2010 I asked fellow group members if they would be interested in participating in a blog.  I received a number of volunteers and we went live in January 2011 and in what seems like a flicker we have just completed the first year.  The purpose of the blog has always been to mirror the group ethos, so first and foremost its non promotional or commercial.  We’re not managed by or promoting a company and simply wanted to create a discussion about HR (you can see where the name came from!), which I hope we have achieved – the readership figures have certainly exceeded any target or expectation I had.

This isn’t intended to be a back slapping exercise, just a recognition of what the blog is about.  Most importantly it is recognition of our writers, who have all contributed time, effort and excellent posts throughout the year.  I have compiled a list of the writers’ best posts this year, so simply click on the links below to view the respective writer’s post.

It is also important to recognise our guest writers who also play an integral part in the blog.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jude Germain, Greg Kilminster, Wendy Mason (twice!), Mark Ions, Janice Caplan, Paul Goring and Mark Greenhouse.

Creating the blog site has had some additional benefits.  I can use it as a site to post information for the main LinkedIn group that I couldn’t post there.  You will be able to find a guide of how to use the group and details of the latest networking events– the next round of which are only a few weeks away.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has participated in the discussions these posts have created, we have received numerous comments which we are all extremely grateful for.

I hope 2011 has been a good year for you, but I hope 2012 is even better – Happy New Year!
