CRA/LA MOVES FORWARD WITH ATWATER VILLAGE REDEVELOPMENT PLANS DESPITE GROWING OPPOSITION

The Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) has willfully ignored growing calls from Atwater Village stakeholders and community groups, including the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council, that they stop their efforts to include Atwater Village into the proposed Northeast Los Angeles (NELA) River Redevelopment Project Area.

The CRA/LA is seeking to legally declare Atwater Village and other NELA neighborhoods “blighted” with the objective of creating a project area for redevelopment thru use of eminent domain. The project area would cover most NELA communities that lie alongside the river, including some significant sections of Atwater Village, with no regards to the integrity of long established community boundaries. Atwater Village’s boundaries and land-use development uniformity would be threatened by its inclusion in the proposed redevelopment project area.

At their upcoming meeting CRA/LA Board of Commissioners are expected to authorize various requests by CRA/LA Planners to move forward with their ongong efforts to declare Atwater Village “blighted”. See agenda below.
