The Griffith Park Lions Club (GPLC) will hold their 69thAnnual Pancake Breakfast this upcoming Saturday May 5th, 2012 from 7:30am – 11:00am. The event will be held at the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot, 3250 Glendale Blvd in Atwater Village.
This year’s menu consists of all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee and orange juice… all for just $5.00. There will also be a silent auction, door prices and an eye-mobile with free glaucoma screenings. All proceeds go to fund the Club’s charitable work such as sight loss prevention programs, youth programs, and services for children.
The GPLC has been active for many years and has organized a Pancake Breakfast in Atwater Village since 1943. The pancakes and sausages are still grilled in a vintage mobile-kitchen the Lions built after World War II. The mobile-kitchen was built over a Lockheed people mover used to ferry workers constructing Boeing B-17 airplanes.
Current GPLC President, Betty Bartlotta, promotes the event as “pancakes with a side of history and a heap of community”. Betty, a longtime Atwater resident, was just five years old when she attended her first Pancake Breakfast back in 1948 and since then has only missed one. Today Betty takes great joy in continuing this wonderful Atwater Village tradition.
This year’s Pancake Breakfast promises to be another friendly village affair. An event where local residents, merchants and members from surrounding Lions Clubs eat and mingle; as well as sing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Getting To Know You” at Betty’s request.
See you there!
