Lehigh Valley unemployment remained at 8.1% in May. Musikfest has agreed to cut back on City of Bethlehem services and thus reduce its costs. The East Penn School District has agreed to raise taxes 1.6%. A new report says that local realtors are steering minorities into the City of Allentown while keeping whites away from it. Mayors Panto, Hozza and Callahan all attended a Chamber Board of Governors meeting yesterday and encouraged the Board to continue to fight for pension reform.
In budget news, Governor Corbett continued his push to revamp human service funding into block grant format with a 10% funding cut.
In national news, the Supreme Court yesterday ruled that most of Arizona's controversial immigration reform legislation is unconstitutional, though it did uphold the "show your papers" portion of the legislation. The U.S. House of Representatives has scheduled a contempt of Congress vote against Attorney General Eric Holder for Thursday.
