SENATOR LIU TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON CONSUMER EDUCATION AND FRAUD PREVENTION FOR SENIORS

BURBANK – Sen. Carol Liu will host a free workshop on consumer education and fraud prevention for seniors on Saturday (June 5, 2010) at the Joslyn Adult Center.

“Older adults are more vulnerable to scams and exploitation than other age groups,” said Liu, D-La Cañada-Flintridge. “Now more than ever, it is critical to educate our seniors about fraud so they can protect themselves, their property, retirement funds and other assets.”

Speakers from the state, Los Angeles County, and city agencies will be present information and take questions. A panel will include representatives from the State Pharmacy Board, State Department of Corporations, Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs, Los Angeles County Department of Adult Protective Services, Burbank Police Department, and AARP. Issues to be addressed range from lowering prescription drug costs to learning about common scams that target older adults.

Liu represents nearly 850,000 people in the 21st Senate District, which includes Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, La Cañada-Flintridge, San Gabriel, Temple City, and several City and County of Los Angeles communities.
