Less than 50% of households in Wales have someone working UK Government figures published today have shown and the worst affected area the Gwent Valleys along with Glasgow and Liverpool.
From the Western Mail ‘The proportion of households in Wales classified as “working” has fallen below 50% in the past year according to figures released this morning.
In 2008, 50.6% of Welsh households were ones were all people of working age were in employment but last year this slipped to 48.3%. The fall across the UK was from 55.2% to 53%.
These figures from the National Statistics will be seen as the latest evidence of how Wales has been hit by the economic downturn.
The proportion of Welsh households where nobody works has jumped up over this period from 20.8% to 22.9%. The increase across the UK was from 17.8% to 18.7%.
A “working household” is one that includes at least one person of working age and in which all individuals aged 16 and over are in employment. A “workless household” is one that includes at least one person of working age and no one aged 16 and over is in employment'
So how far does Wales have to fall before people wake up to the fact that we are being take for fools for too long by all Political parties and started to demand progress on worklessness and economic growth in all parts of Wales.
