Daily Briefing, 6/21/2012

Good morning everyone!  Here is today's Daily Briefing.

The controversial language of the Allentown NIZ, including the use of EIT money and language that limits the NIZ to Allentown, appears set for removal, clearing the way for the continuation of construction of the Allentown Arena.  Home sales rose but prices dropped in May.  Today will be another hot one, with temperatures bordering on triple digits.

In statewide news, Governor Corbett and Republican legislators have agreed to a $27.656 spending number for the Pennsylvania budget.  At a press conference yesterday, the Governor also defended his use of a $1.65 billion tax credit for the creation of a Shell cracker plant in Western Pennsylvania.  Auditor General Jack Wagner has released a report saying that taxpayers are overcharged $365 million for charter reimbursements every year.  The Sandusky trial will likely go to the jury today.

In national news, a House of Representative Judiciary Panel recommended that Attorney General Eric Holder be found to be in contempt of Congress for his refusal to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious investigation.  Congress appears set to ban bath salts.
