Incentivising the LCP

I have just been reading that hospitals are given financial rewards if they meet their targets for the numbers (or more accurately per centage) of patients who are on the LCP when they die.

That of course raises some serious questions.

According to the Daily Mail, Professor Patrick Pullicino, said: 'Given the fact that the diagnosis of impending death is such a subjective one, putting a financial incentive into the mix is really not a good idea and it could sway the decision-making process.'
