Humana spokesman Mitch Lubitz said the company will offer competitive wages and full benefits, but he couldn't give an average wage level. The call-center workers will sell Medicare insurance products to people eligible for the federal government-sponsored health-care program.

Humana has been hiring briskly lately. In April, the company announced that it would hire 177 people for its Humana Cares unit, which serves chronically ill insurance customers. The bulk of those jobs will be based in St. Petersburg.
With its latest round of hiring, Humana will employ about 2,200 people in the Tampa Bay area, the company said in a release.
