Plaid Cymru’s Jonathan Edwards has written a hard hitting post about Labour patronage in Wales and AWEMA and how it’s affecting Welsh democracy. It makes the political links between Naz Malik and Labour better than anything the three opposition party AM’s in the Assembly could manage during the AWEMA debate in the Senedd on Wednesday which created more heat than light.
The post has already resulted in a full blooded exchange between Jonathan and Sustrans Wales Director Lee Waters who is a Labour member on Twitter and though Jonathan's article is damming, it will as he concedes himself be dismissed as a rant from a ‘Nat’ but he has certainly widened the debate around the AWEMA scandal.
And it should come as no surprise to anyone that Welsh Civil Society including public affairs and large parts of the public and third sector are full of Labour members, who will toe the party line and not criticise the Welsh Government and it remains one of Labour’s blind spots and the main reason the engagement of Welsh voters since devolution was introduced has been so weak and Welsh politics has been so ineffective - will this intervention change anything, i doubt it, but it shouldn't stop him or anyone else speaking truth to power especially here in Wales where Minister's get away without resigning over farce's like AWEMA.
