“We came as a people to the land blessed by God”

Nagas are not like the Tribes who made an exodus with Moses to the land of Cannan. They had that exodus due to the torture of the Egyptians. This was done with knowledge and help of the Almighty God. They are known as the Israelites and we have heard that, since they didn’t obey God; the 40 days to reach Cannan was extended to 40 years. Nagas are taking this example but Nagas are not like that. Ref. Holy Bible Acts 7:3 “Leave your Country and your people; God said and go to the land, I will show you”. And our ancestors were settled in Mongolia. But since God, the Almighty destined for us to be in this land we marched from Mongolia in 400 BC and reached the present land, this is called NAGA inhibited area. This was not because of tortures and enmity between Mongolia and like Egypt and Israel. We came as a people to the land blessed by God. And we cannot deny the fact of what Arundhati Roy wrote that Nagaland is a small Nation occupied by India. This means, only Nagas of Nagaland (State). But almost 3 (three) times is the area of the Nagas of Myanmar comparing to present Nagas of India. And in India, how much more land do we have in Nagas of Arunachal and Nagas of Manipur? Think about it. When we look at all this, Nagaland is not comparable to Estimor or Vatican City. To be truthful, during the British period, the secretary of State in 1847 wrote to the Commissioner, “As it is the huge area of uncontrolled Country between Assam and Burma is an anomaly”. This is the land which bears a rainbow flag.

During NNC period 99.9% voted for sovereignty in 1951. Again in the British included area, 10 (Ten) kms from the people whether we will rebel against the Indian (Imperial rule) Kuthur Village where the warriors were gathered and taken first mandate on 2nd Oct. 1953 with A.Z.Phizo presences. Then from Lengnyu Village (Khiamniungan area) the Kikruma resolution was reaffirmed among free Nagas where first plebecite was to be conducted it from free Naga area (British excluded area). This decision was given to all Tribes to be conducted on the same day. Henceforth, the Tribal elders were given the responsibility. It was fixed to take place on 25th of March 1955. Hence, Yimchungers also held a meeting at Tüntünke (Kepeak) in Y/Aunru Village on 9th Oct. 1954. From Kuthur to Saramati, the prominent Leaders gathered led by Hopong, Lakhum and Thsamphu, 300 brave warriors gathered and made the decision to remove imperial rule.

But due to sudden confrontation, the plebecite took place on 24th March, a day ahead of the decided date. On the decided date, even in Kiphre post also plebecite action was taken. Thsanso Yimchunger from Wonglam Village, Ahokiu Yimchunger from Pokpur Village, Kiusümong Yimchunger from Wongphonger Village etc conducted the plebecite with traditional weapons. These were done by the peoples minded mandate and for the Naga inhibited areas. After that much agony and untold miseries were brought to our land. We have heard of the troubles given by the

Britishers to Indian while fighting. But, We the Nagas have also got lots of troubles as if in revenge to the action of the British from India and it still exists. Naturally there may be some person or group who might have surrendered to the common enemy but that will be termed personally. But the signing of infamous Shillong Accord is the selling of Nagas. If some NNC Leaders didn’t sign Shillong Accord in 1975, then the birth of NSCN after 5 years wouldn’t have

taken place. The birth of this took place in Naga base area (Nagas of Myanmar) and in the process, some Naga Leaders became myrters when there was chaos in Leadership (People susbected to be still under non-Shillong Accord saying they were the supporters of A.Z.Phizo. Didn’t everyone see it through mass media. So, will those Leaders will be termed right who forsake Phizo. Will they be termed as Delhi accordists? I want to say this to Naga intellectuals. During 1918s’, if there were only a few Naga intellectuals, and if they had the guts even to fight against the British, today we have enough intellectuals. Do not be afraid. Nagaland belongs to you and the future is for you. Hence rise up.
