Antergos 2013.08.20 rilasciata: nuovo installer e tanti miglioramenti

Dopo un lungo torpore ecco giungere a noi una nuova ISO di Antergos, la distro derivata di Arch nata dalle ceneri di Cinnarch. 

Antergos 2013.08.20 porta con se numerose migliorie all'installer grafico Cnchi nonché al software di notifica aggiornamenti Remendo. Per chi se la fosse persa, la particolarità di Antergos è quella di poter installare Arch con un installer grafico e già configurata a seconda dell'ambiente che andremo a scegliere in fase di installazione.

Antergos Openbox

È ora possibile installare Openbox oltre che Gnome, Cinnamon, Xfce, Razor-qt o la versione base da personalizzare a mano.

Cnchi consente ora, durante il processo di installazione, di installare software di terze parti come codec multimediali, adobe flash player etc, così come già accade nell'installer di Ubuntu o Linux Mint.

Di seguito la lista completa delle novità (in lingua inglese perché è tanta roba da tradurre e mi scoccio):

LXDE-Qt avvia il porting di Obconf nelle QT

Come ben sapete il team di LXDE ha deciso di unire gli sforzi con quello di Razor-QT per la realizzazione di LXDE-Qt, la nuova versione del DE leggero tanto amato dai pinguini basato però sulle Qt.

In questa fase iniziale gli sforzi degli sviluppatori sono concentrati nel porting dei vari programmi verso le Qt. L'ultima conversione riguarda Obconf (Openbox Config Tool), che è una GUI usata per configurare Openbox. Obconf era basato sulle GTK +2 e su libglade ed ora è stato completamente portato in Qt.

Il nuovo tool prende il nome di obconf-qt e funzionerà sia su LXDE-Qt che su razor-qt 0.6

Il porting è a buon punto e la maggior parte delle caratteristiche originali sono già state portate a Qt.

Quello che attualmente non funziona è:

• l'impostazione dei caratteri
• le impostazioni della dock
• l'anteprima dei temi

Il team di Razor-Qt confluirà in quello di LXDE per lo sviluppo di LXDE-Qt!

Quella che segue è una delle migliori notizie informatiche degli ultimi mesi. Come vi avevo annunciato qualche post fa, il team di LXDE ha iniziato il lavoro di porting in Qt del proprio DE. A seguito di questa scelta il team di Razor Qt si è visto fin da subito interessato a collaborare con gli sviluppatori di LXDE. Questa collaborazione si è ora concretizzata in una vera e propria fusione.

Il team di Razor-Qt confluirà in quello di LXDE per lo sviluppo di LXDE-Qt!

It has been an incredible experience and I cannot express how friendly and fun the KDE community is. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and a lot of people absolutely love what the lightweight DEs are doing.

While I was there, we were offered a spot under the KDE umbrella as a KDE member (which is different from becoming a KDE project, it does not add any dependencies on any kde library or project). Further details on that are in a separate email posted recently to the mailing list, I encourage everyone to have a look at it.

I truly hope more people will join me at Akademy 2014; I'm really looking forward to it and will be staying for the entire week. Several photo albums are available on the Akademy wiki, here to convince everyone to come!

I had the chance to talk a lot about Razor there. It has been clear the project has been in need of restructuring for a while now. We've had long periods with no commits at all. The 0.6.0 release has fallen behind and development overall has slowed down greatly. Some people are calling Razor "complete" but, while I agree it can be sufficient for a lot of use cases, it still is in need of a lot of polishing and improvements.

One of the root causes is the lack of actual manpower. We lost several of our core committers due to personal reasons. Everyone here is a volunteer and that comes with the uncertainty on whether we'll still have developers around the next day.

On the other hand, the LXDE team has made tremendous progress in their Qt port. This is excellent news for LXDE, for the Qt community and especially for us because the LXDE project has always shared our philosophy. We both strive for small footprint, limited dependencies and modularity.

So what happens now?

Our two teams have met up and discussed the issues and we have decided that the best course of action for both projects is to focus on a single desktop environment, instead of two.

There have been talks of "merging" ever since LXDE-Qt was announced. Having taken the decision to collaborate, we've all had the pleasure of working together already.

Our plan is to cherry-pick the best parts of Razor and LXDE and include or port those to LXDE-Qt. Other components will be ported straight from GTK code or rewritten from scratch. In the end, we want to offer the best possible experience while reusing as much code as possible. It will not be an easy process and as always, we welcome anyone who wishes to help, be it with development, translations, or general feedback.

In the LXDE codebase, PCMan is overseeing the development of LXDE-Qt which will see a 0.1 release with several razor components already available. The GTK2 port will still be maintained by Andrej and will remain available for as long as possible. The plan is to keep the two branches in sync; as long as GTK2 is still widely in use, the GTK branch will be fully supported and receive further improvements and bugfixes.

Whether LXDE itself will become a KDE member is yet to be determined. Their infrastructure is very attractive and we all wish to make use of it, but in the middle of all these events we have decided to keep the decision for later and involve as much of the community as possible in it.

As for Razor-qt, we will release a final 0.6.0 package for those who are happy with the desktop as it is. We are starting the release process now and it will include several additional improvements from the Razor/LXDE fusion. After the release, there are no further plans to maintain the Razor-qt tree on its own. We will all be working on the LXDE-Qt repositories and we are looking forward to everyone joining forces and working on LXDE-Qt.

I am joined by everyone in hoping this move will bring our two communities closer, as we are all very excited to work together on a single high quality, lightweight Qt desktop environment.

Nel post il team di LXDE fa sapere che parallalamente allo sviluppo di LXDE-Qt verrà portato avanti la versione tradizionale in GTK di LXDE al fine di non creare disagi nel breve periodo.

Come avete avuto modo di leggere le parti migliori di Razor-Qt e di LXDE verranno incluse nel nuovo LXDE-Qt. Alcuni componenti verranno portati dalle GTK mentre altre saranno riscritte da zero.

Antergos la nuova derivata di Arch Linux nata dalle ceneri di Cinnarch

A distanza di un mese dall'ultimo rilascio sotto il nome di Cinnarch ecco che il team di sviluppatori che realizzava questa derivate di Arch ha rilasciato la prima versione del loro nuovo progetto ovvero Antergos.

Antergos è una nuova derivata di Arch Linux avente come obiettivo quello di consentire all'utilizzatore finale una facile installazione di Arch. Questo è possibile grazie grazie ad un piccolo tool grafico che ci consentirà di scegliere quale ambiente installare e in automatico i programmi per avere un sistema perfettamente configurato.

Il tool in questione si chiama Cnchi (vorrei tanto sapere dove hanno pescato questo nome) che, in questa prima versione, consente di scegliere fra l'installazione di Gnome 3, Cinnamon, Xfce o Razor-qt.

Come ho detto prima a seconda dell'ambiente desktop scelto cambieranno i programmi installati. 

È stato scelto Razor-qt e non KDE perché i programmatori devono ancora risolvere alcuni problemi per la sua installazione.

Razor-qt 0.5.2 rilasciato

Nuovo rilascio di manutenzione per Razor-qt, il DE basato sulle Qt (le stesse librerie su cui si basa KDE) che mira a diventare quel che è Xfce per Gnome.

Razor-qt 0.5.2 così come suggerisce il nome è un rilascio di manutenzione (e per la precisione il secondo) del ramo 0.5 di Razor-qt.

Vediamo le notivà:

In addition, a number of improvements and bug fixes were made:

• First day of week will also be detected correctly on systems with Qt older than 4.8.
• Mount plugin received a number of improvements. It will now display volume sizes correctly.
• Razor can now use systemd directly to shutdown/supend/etc.
• Themes were improved to work well with dark Qt color schemes.
• The bug that caused creation of ~/razor and ~/.razor directories was fixed. (If you have such directories, it's safe to delete them)
• And lots of other minor fixes

Se siete su Kubuntu come me per installare Razor-qt basterà seguire questi semplici passaggi.

Come prima cosa aggiungete il PPA Razor-qt DE dando da terminale

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:razor-qt/ppa

aggiornate

sudo apt-get update

ed installate Razor-qt dando

sudo apt-get install razorqt

Ora non vi resta che riavviare la sessione e loggarvi con Razor-qt. Per le altre distro fate riferimento alla pagina ufficiale di Razor-qt.
