A HEARTFELT GOOD BYE FROM OUTGOING ATWATER VILLAGE CHAMBER PRESIDENT MARK NEWMAN-KUZEL

Hello Atwater Village.

It is with both joy and regret that I must say good bye to all as President of the Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce.

It has been my pleasure to work over the past two years with a wonderful and unselfish group of business and community leaders in taking our Chamber to a higher level of all that is good. In addition to a new era of positive visibility and renewed success, Atwater Village has enjoyed the fruits of our labor in focusing the Los Angles spotlight on all that our community has to offer.

As we all know, it takes a Village to make change happen and the many successes I have been fortunate to have overseen would not have been possible without the Team spirit of so many. With the election of the Vibrant Village Board of Directors last year of the “new” Chamber, the general membership overwhelmingly elected a new slate of Board members to include: Mike Agakhanyan (Atwater Grill), Mary Gray (Potted), Andy Hasroun (Future Development/55 Degree Wine), Kat Podmolik (dtox day spa), Joe Ranieri (Mortarless), Imara Tammero (Amelia Fitzwater), and Ricardo Villareal (Wells Fargo). There are others too, and too many to mention here, but they know who they are who helped bring about this change.

Working in conjunction with the leadership of the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council (Leonora Gershman and Roberta Javier), the Vibrant Village’s Chamber oversaw the “largest” Tree Lighting in L.A. history according to Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti. Because of the unselfish and creative energies of The Tree Lighting Committee (Brian Shepp, Joseph Arroyo, Patricia Aleman, Carl Dove, Jerry Kontogiorgis, Cary Mock, Steve Piacenkza, Aron Smith, and Daniella Southgate) over 1,700 people witnessed the most beautiful Christmas Tree Atwater Village has ever showcased. With over 2,250 new lights and 150 sparkling new ornaments, our Village experienced both a spectacular Tree Lighting and professional scale Tree Lighting show emceed by our very own local actress and celebrity Catherine Dent.

When the Vibrant Village’s Chamber wasn’t entertaining one and all with impressive Tree Lighting events, we were hosting quarterly mixers at new locations in our Village to include: 55 Degree Wine (attended by Council President Garcetti), dtox day spa, and The Griffin. With great guest speakers and fun mixers combined, The Chamber almost doubled our membership.

And if this wasn’t enough, the Vibrant Village’s Chamber created Summer Nights on the Boulevard, which just wrapped up with last week’s Season Finale. Entertaining several hundreds of shoppers over the course of three months, artists, dance companies, bands, and more filled our sidewalks with one-of-a-kind talent produced right here in Atwater Village. Thanks to the help of many, including: Greg Cohen, Seth Freeman, Carolyn Hamilton, Scott Pitts, Shannina Rivera-Relles, Summer Nights was yet another success produced by the Vibrant Village.

While some may be happy and complacent to just sit back and rest, there is so much more to do for the Los Angeles spotlight to shine on Atwater Village. Now is the perfect time for The Chamber to continue to reach even higher with your new President, Andy Hasroun, who will achieve even more success under his leadership. With the backing of the Vibrant Village Board of Directors: Patricia Aleman (State Farm Insurance), Mary Gray (Potted), Luis Lopez (Luis Lopez Automotive), Diane Serafino (Woof), and Joe Ranieri (Mortarless) forward momentum is sure to continue with your support.

My thoughts and energies will always be with all positive efforts Atwater Village strives to achieve now and for many years to come.
