The Lehigh Valley added 100 jobs in April but more people reentered the workforce, resulting in unemployment rising from 7.9% to 8.1%. In a response to the lawsuits filed against the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone, Governor Corbett says that the City and two related authorities should be suited, not the Commonwealth. The City has also requested to be added to the suit and have the suit dismissed. Don Cunningham has been formally selected to lead the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation and will lay out his vision for the organization on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Dan McCarthy, a Democratic Commissioner, has said he will apply to fill the vacancy caused by Cunningham's resignation as County Executive. Air Products and the future Allentown Phantoms have created a new charity. In the Slate Belt, the Bangor Area School District increased taxes by 2.2%. St. Lukes in Bethlehem Township has received permission from planners to double the size of their hospital Emergency Room. As you are probably well aware, storms hit the Valley hard yesterday, causing about 3,000 to lose power.
In state-wide news, Pennsylvania's casinos generated $1.5 billion in revenue, making it the top tax-revenue generating state in the country in this category.
In national news, Mitt Romney has officially won enough delegates to claim the Republican nomination for President with a win in the Texas primary yesterday.
