It was inevitable that once a Labour goon read Michael Haggett's post calling Rhun ap Iorweth a liar, (something politicians don’t even call each other) that it would be used to cause maximum damage to Plaid Cymru’s campaign in the Anglesey by election and so it proved with today’s cut and paste job from Martin Shipton just 48 hours before the polls open.
The nuclear split has been with Plaid Cymru for ages and Michael Haggett made his distaste of Rhun known as soon as he was mentioned as a potential candidate, however he must have known what impact his latest words would have and I have no sympathy for him for the damage he’s caused himself and his party.
But I digress, yet again Plaid Cymru grassroots and its leadership have shown they don’t believe that Labour in Wales will sink to any depths to win or if they can’t win will try and cause as much damages to their opponents, despite Labour doing it time and time again to Plaid Cymru, Tories and Lib Dems in countless elections over the years.
Plaid’s naivety is the least of their problems because after Thursday they will have the worst of both worlds. Rhun is likely to win but he'll be damaged goods and he and Plaid Cymru can look forward to being regularly questioned and challenged about it’s nuclear policy until the 2016 Assembly elections.
And I fully expect this eposode and the nuclear issue to be used to question whether you can trust Leanne Wood or Plaid Cymru’s word by Labour and it’s cheerleaders in the welsh press forcing Plaid Cymru onto the back foot and losing the chance to get their message across.

But in case you think i’m being harsh I wrote a piece after the Anglesey Council elections in May asking would Plaid Cymru learn its lessons from being short-changed by Labour – the answer is unsurprisingly no and until that lesson is learned they will remain a party easily defined by its enemies and not trusted by voters.
