Atwater’s former Neighborhood Council (AVNC) Co-Chair, Robert Smith, has forced a redo of last month’s board-member appointments by the current AVNC board.
In an email to the City he complains that the 3 recently appointed board positions “were filled with a vote of all stakeholders present at the last board meeting”. Smith writes, “this type of vote, not on the agenda and against process defined in the bylaws, should not be considered valid. These seats are only filled via board consensus.” Smith goes on to request that the procedural matter be resolved. Click here for Smith email (pdf file)
Since Smith’s complaint the City Attorney's Office and Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) has required the current AVNC Board to redo last month’s board appointments. Click here for CityAttorney’s Office email (pdf file)

The AVNC will be appointing 3 Special Interest board members at their December 13thmeeting. The available Special Interest seats are designed "to ensure representation from any under-represented group or groups of stakeholders, or to provide the board with particular expertise, assistance, or knowledge which would be of particular value to the board and the stakeholders".
Any Atwater Village stakeholder interested in filling those positions should attend the December 13th meeting at 7pm. Go to www.atwatervillage.org for more information.
