Canada loses WTO Green Energy Act appeal | iPolitics:
Ontario’s high domestic content requirements for solar and wind energy generators breach Canada’s international trade commitments, the WTO ruled Monday.
The WTO’s ruling reaffirmed an earlier position that a feed-in-tariff (FIT) program established in the 2009 Ontario Green Energy Act breached Canada’s commitments under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures (TRIMS).
It’s been almost half a year since a WTO Dispute Settlement Panel determined that Ontario’s FIT program discriminated against foreign producers because of the domestic content requirements for renewable energy generators.
