Academic opportunities @ UNCTAD Virtual Institute

Dear Vi friends,

I am pleased to forward the following academic opportunities from Virtual Institute core Colombian member coordinator, Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez, and partners from our extended network.

The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) seeks a Research Coordinator for its work programme on gender and development. Building on prior and ongoing research, s/he will lead the development of new research projects, identifying critical areas of concern for the UN system within the framework of the overall UNRISD research strategy.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in conceptualizing, developing and implementing research programmes, with field research experience in developing countries. S/he will have a record of high-quality research outputs and experience in communicating research to diverse audiences, particularly in policy communities. S/he should be familiar with UNRISD research; some knowledge of the UN system would be an advantage.

The post requires a minimum of five years of experience in development research at an academic or research institution and a Master's degree in social science, with a focus on gender and development. A PhD is strongly desirable.

Applications must be submitted online by October 13.

The Latin American Chapter of the Academy of International Business (AIB-LAT) has issued a call for papers in preparation for its fourth annual meeting, "Innovation, Geography, and Internationalization in Latin America," to be held March 20-22 on the campus of Vi core Colombian member, Universidad EAFIT, in Medellín.

The conference will promote research findings and theoretical developments related to the geographical aspects of innovation and internationalization in the Latin American context. Papers addressing issues related to how factors such as cities, country boundaries, and various distance types (e.g., cultural, administrative, geographic, economic, etc.) promote and/or inhibit innovation and internationalization must be submitted online by October 15.

Integration & Trade Journal is now accepting articles examining the patterns and determinants of the internationalization of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

Papers addressing the following themes: importance of SMEs in trade flows and foreign direct investment in LAC; internationalization of SMEs and its driving factors in LAC; and the policy perspective in LAC; should be submitted to intintaljournal@iadb.org no later than October 15. Selected articles will be published in the December issue.

The ASEAN-Canada Research Partnership, with the support of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, invites applications for the 2013–2014 ASEAN-Canada Junior Fellowships on Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Growth. Eleven fellowships will be offered to successful applicants from the 10 ASEAN countries or Canada. Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master's degree and have no more than 5 years of working experience.

Research should address the challenge of improving systems for managing natural resources to allow sustainable economic growth and meet growing energy needs in the ASEAN region. Collaborative proposals among ASEAN nationals or that incorporate creative methodologies are particularly encouraged.

Fellowships will start in January, with fieldwork and a first draft of the paper to be completed by June 2014. Applications may be submitted to Cheryl Lim (ischeryllim@ntu.edu.sg) until October 31.

Best regards,

Susana Olivares
