Wales Leader’s Lectures

Following on from my last post lamenting the lack of policy debate from the political class, a small chink of light appeared. The Wales Governance Centre at Cardiff University is running a series of ‘Leaders lectures’ with the party leader, so far they’ve had Conservative AM Andrew RT Davies taking about the next stage of devolution and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood on the economy.

Here is a taster of Andrew RT Davies speech on the devolution, where now? and below is Leanne’s speech on the economy.

I’m not a big fan of Leanne but this is the first time she actually looks like she has the making of a serious politician rather than a protest politician.

It’s yet another fail for Welsh press on the matter of Welsh democracy because we all know why they didn’t cover either speech for the policies raised - it wasn’t sexy enough.  Andrew RT’s speech didn’t get any coverage outside of social media and Leanne’s speech only made the news because of her announcement to stand in the Rhondda in 2016 not for the economic arguments she sets out.

Not sure when Kirsty Williams or Carwyn Jones are speaking because the events section of the Wales Governance Centre hasn’t been updated, but you can bet that outside of the usual suspect few will know what either leader had to say.

UPDATE Welsh language news site Golwg360 covered Leanne's speech on the welsh economy
