It’s Assembly Election time

It’s that time again, the Welsh Assembly is sitting for the last time this week and then our AM’s will be hitting the campaign trail in search of our votes on May 5th – be afraid babies!

We’ve already had a taste of what’s to come during a fiery First Minister’s Questions on Tuesday (not often you can say that). It must have been a one off after all Tory Nick Bourne, the Official leader of the opposition landed some telling blows on First Minster Carwyn Jones over the lack of a Manufacturing Strategy and the poor state of the Welsh Economy rather than going awol and leaving holding WAG accountable to Lib Dem Leader Kirsty Williams whose been keeping Carwyn honest since he took up his new role.

In the Chamber the campaign tactics were obvious, Labour and Plaid Cymru will hammer the UK Government over the cuts and the Conservatives and Lib Dems will shred WAG’s record over the past 4 years - but is there really anything to play for?

If you look at the latest ITV Wales YouGov Opinion Poll and the trend since last year’s UK General election, Welsh voters seem to have made up their mind over who to reward and who to blame for the current state of Wales.

Still there will be new faces and a few interesting battles in seats like Carmarthen West & South Pembrokeshire, Caerphilly and Cardiff Central as well as the lottery of who gets elected on the Regional Lists to keep me interested.

One other thing worth noting the Ceremonial Mace that has lived in the Chamber since 2006, when it was presented by the New South Wales Government to the Assembly, was finally used today to dissolve the third Assembly as the Senedd is now a fully fledged law making body.Any source
