Congratulations! Effective 2010-2011 school year, Atwater Avenue Elementary School will enroll students in Kindergarten through 6th Grade.
This means that all our current 5th grade students will remain here at Atwater Avenue Elementary School for their 6th grade experience. This is exciting news! Research has shown that in areas including academic achievement, behavior, and socio-emotional development, 6th graders in an elementary school environment tend to do better than their peers in a middle school setting. Our current 5th graders will get a rare opportunity to be taught by a team of teachers who have known them since kindergarten.
As a result, there will be no 5th culmination this year. All 5th grade children will culminate after completing 6th grade and then move on to middle school.
In closing, I would like to thank you for your continued support and excellent efforts in supporting the everyday happenings at Atwater Avenue Elementary School.
