Daily Briefing, 8/28/2012

Good morning everyone!  Here is today's Daily Briefing.

Danny McNeill has been officially confirmed by the Democratic State Committee to replace Joe Brennan in the 133rd District.  Unemployment in the Lehigh Valley rose from 8.5 to 8.8%.  The city of Bethlehem posted it's first surplus in four years.

In state-wide news, former Senator Arlen Specter is in the hospital with what has been described as a serious illness.  Voter IDs are now available through PennDOT.  While answering questions about his stance on abortion yesterday, Republican Senate candidate Tom Smith yesterday compared having a child as a result of rape to having a child out of wedlock.

In national news, Issac is a Tropical Storm again but is expected to make landfall in the next 24 hours.
